Hi, my name is Doug Janicke and I've been playing music in the Rockford IL area for more than 40 years!

I was guitarist/vocalist in the variety band SHADES, the country band THUNDERHEART and I played "George" in the Beatles tribute band SIMPLY FAB.

I worked at Guzzardo Music for 13 years as salesman, manager and teaching guitar, bass and drum lessons. I then owned and operated my own print music store (JANICKE'S NOTE BY NOTE) for more than a decade, selling sheet music, music books and accessories and teaching. No matter what else I've done, I've always taught music lessons and I love it!

And now, I'm offering music lessons on acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass guitar and drums. I teach reading music notation (sight reading), tablature, theory, ear training, rhythm and lead playing, improvisation, using method books, my own prepared material and real songs to make the learning process fun, practical, informative, successful and personalized to each student. Private sessions afford tailoring the lessons specifically to the individual student's desires and needs.

I also teach a variety of styles: pop, rock, folk, blues, gospel, country, singer-songwriter favorites, classic rock, Christian praise songs, old, new, electric, acoustic . . . from power chords to rock soloing, from strumming to fingerpicking, I've done it all on stage and in my teaching . . .variety is the spice of life! I enjoy teaching all ages (from 8 and up) and all levels, particularly taking beginners and inexperienced players from "nothing" to "something"!

I strongly emphasize the importance of good rhythm, the significance of learning chords, chord progressions, song structures and theory, and, most of all, I stress playing, playing, PLAYING! The best, fastest, easiest and most effective way to progress is to listen, play along with songs and develop a great "feel". If you combine this "using your heart" method with the "head" knowledge every musician should know (reading, theory, etc.), then you begin to develop a total picture, a full toolbox of musical ammunition, that will enable you to do more and play better. This is virtually an "invincible", bullet proof way of learning and playing where you can do anything and you'll never get stuck. You can play better and more fluidly in every situation, with any material and with other musicians. Then you'll be in "the zone", truly at the heart and soul of what makes music work and makes playing so enjoyable!

So, if you've always wanted to play but have never tried, if you've tried but you're tired of not progressing and don't know how to get moving, or if you're a player but you're bored and want to learn more, play with others and get "energized", contact me now. I teach private lessons and I also offer adult group classes (age 17 and up) for beginners.

Hi, my name is Doug Janicke and I've been playing music in the Rockford IL area for more than 41 years and I've taught music lessons on guitar, bass guitar and drums for over 30 years.

I was guitarist/vocalist in the variety band SHADES, the rock bands PETTY CASH, BEAT STREET, STRANGE FACES and BIG, BIG, the country bands UNTAMED HEARTS and THUNDER HEART, and I played "George" in the Beatles tribute band SIMPLY FAB. I've been fortunate enough to be in groups that have opened for big name acts at many area concerts and festivals; I played at On The Waterfront ten years in a row, in four different bands and on two different stages, placing an original song on Waterfront's double CD released in 2000, winning several "Best Of Rockford" awards and four RAMIs (Rockford Area Music Industry awards). I've also played acoustic and electric guitar as well as bass guitar on Heartland Community Church's Worship Team in the praise band since 2003.

I worked at Guzzardo Music for 13 years as salesman, manager and music instructor. I then owned and operated my own print music store (JANICKE'S NOTE BY NOTE) for more than a decade, selling sheet music, music books, instrument accessories and gift items. But no matter what else I've done, I've always taught music lessons and I love it!

Private sessions afford tailoring the lessons specifically to the individual student's desires and needs.

I also teach a variety of styles: pop, rock, folk, blues, gospel, country, singer-songwriter favorites, classic rock, contemporary Christian music. . . .old songs, current tunes, electric, acoustic. . . from power chords to rock soloing, from strumming to finger-picking. . . I've done it all on stage and in my teaching. They say variety is the spice of life and they're right! I enjoy teaching all ages (from 8 and up) and all levels, particularly taking beginners and inexperienced players from "nothing" to "something"!
